The first apparel company in Turkey to be awarded the SA 8000 certificate in 2005, Yeşim Textile was recently awarded the certificate for the third time for its continuous efforts to further improve the working conditions for its employees. One of the only four companies in Turkey that hold the certificate, Yeşim achieves a number of innovative breakthroughs each year to improve the working conditions for its employees, guided by its “People First” approach.
The management system inspected in the scope of audits conducted by Intertek, an independent international auditor, included aspects such as the adoption of measures for the prevention of child employment, ensuring occupational health and safety and prevention of environment pollution, election by the workers of their representatives, non-discrimination among employees, prevention of harassment and abuse and legal compliance on working time and payments. With the award of this certificate, Yeşim guarantees that it will now ensure and initiate necessary works to ensure adherence to the social compliance requirements not only in-house but also at the workplaces of its suppliers and contractors.
Referred to as the first universal ethical standard, SA 8000 certificate is currently held by 2 thousand 606 companies. Only 4 of those companies are based in Turkey. Companies from Turkey other than Yeşim that hold the SA 8000 are Alarko Carrier, Barit Maden Turk-Bozkar Karbondioksit and S.M.S. Konfeksiyon.
